Putting The Studio Art Degree To Work

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

I took this one in 2007 on a trip we took to NYC for work. It was a Manager-Tools course (that actually was pretty interesting) and right when I got my current job. I had just been dinking around with HDR a little bit at this time and didn’t have a real good grasp on it, but I snapped this one (well, 3 of them at different exposures) from my hotel window at Newark Airport.

It worked well because the plane was pretty much not going anywhere so it was easy to get the few shots at different exposures. I hadn’t been there since 2001 and caught one of the last games of the old Yankee stadium before it got plowed down. They really did need a new stadium, that one was very old.img_4921_19_20-planes-trains-and-automobiles-n-ny

The Ol’ Radar Tower

To be completely honest, I feel bad about putting you on like this. I never even left my hotel room for this shot. It was ugly outside and the drops you see on the pic are actually raindrops from outside the window. I covered up the flash reflection of the lamp in the background and actually HDR’d it up enough that I think it gave it something worth looking at.

It’s funny what you think works and doesn’t, kinda like the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Heather said that this photo was her favorite of the bunch and she’s usually one to focus more on even-ness and balance of which I think this photo misses the mark on both, but I guess maybe it has promise if she likes it…img_4901_898_899_900-dotted-skyline
