Long Black Road – Maui, Hawaii

This one was another stitched together shot I took but then couldn’t figure out if I liked it better in color or black and white. It’s a 8 foot long print, so if you could, go ahead and tell me which is better…long-black-road-to-hana-pano

Pieced Haleakala – Maui, Hawaii

We went up to the top of Haleakala for the bike tour that let’s you coast for about 20 miles down the mountain top. I don’t bike much, but I figured it would be a good time to snap up a few photos. It turned out that I really enjoyed the bike trip down the mountainside. If you search through here you’ll see a lot of the photos I took right when I got my 20d – for the trip actually. This one was about 15 separate photos and just stitched them together in Photoshop. Yes, I know there are a handful of apps that do it for you, but I didn’t know about them at the time. 950pieced-haleakala

A Shot of My Oldest Bean – Happy 5th Lilla!

I’ve tried getting this shot with all my kids so far, but this one sticks out the best – It’s Lilla, just minutes after birth; mohawk, sass, and all! She’s not got the mohawk anymore, but she certainly has the sass! Happy birthday Lilla!lillas-first-hairstyle-dsc01306

Xel Ha, Mexico – Frog Pond 2004

We took a day trip to go to Xel Ha on our trip down to Cancun in 2004.  They’ve got a lot of good 1 day excursions you can do that take you around to see the sites.  They’ve got it pretty nicely setup to cater to the tourists for sure.  This shot really caught my attention at how clear it was for one, and secondly how I couldn’t see any animals in it.xel-ha-frog-pond2

Gazelle on Seregenti

I remember back in the day I wasn’t any good at Photoshop (not that I’m a pro now, but have a little better understanding what does what) and I’d change around my photos, save them in the crappy edited version and overwrite the originals – bad idea. You always want to keep the originals as is – if you’re planning on gussying them up, save it as a new file. You’ll thank yourself for it.

This file was one that died on my original hard drive back in the day, but was saved on my Webshots page thankfully. Unfortunately, it was saved in a smaller format that lost a lot of the detail. One of the things you can do to bring a pixelated photo back to life is to overlay textures on top of it. You can still see some of the boxey shapes that make up pixelation, but an overlay of a nice texture can fix it up a bit (along with a few other photo processing techniques).
