Abandoned House Near Goldendale
We’ve driven by this house a handful of times over the years. It’s right outside Goldendale, WA and near the windmills that are going up along the Columbia river. It was amazing how clean the house was on the inside - you’d think varmints and bushes would overrun it, but maybe the owners of the land keep it clean or something. It’s scarily interesting and just off the highway.
I just got myself a new wide-angle lens (and 4gb memory card) this week when I went in for just a battery charger. It’s an addictive habit the guy at the shop told me.
Preying Mantis Party
I didn’t see a lot of preying mantis’ growing up in Montana; it was a bit too cold. However Hawaii seemed like the perfect place for a few (million) of them…
Whitman College - In Between Prentiss And Anderson 360
**Note: This photo is actually 20 foot long by 3 and 1/2 foot tall in it’s original state. I had to cut it down to fit on the screen. But if you want REAL detail, HERE it is in actual size!**
I was digging through old shots this weekend and started looking at these. I didn’t realize it at that moment of looking through them, but I pulled them up in Photoshop and started to remember that I did a 360 degree shot. I pieced them all together and sure enough - it turned out pretty good. I forgot how nice it gets in Walla^2 in the summertime.
The models in the photo are Bob Jones, my wife Heather, and it appears Lilla is starting to grow, so my guess is this shot is about July 2004. Pretty good memories indeed!
Shaniko Shoe Tree 2
Couldn’t quite figure this one out, but we’ve seen it before on the drive down to Bend, OR, but the “shoe tree” needs its own bit… It’s a sight to see, so is the undergarments tree next to it, but far more interesting to look at.
Friday Noon Lights
Snapped this one in Missoula, MT right on the other side of the river from Missoula Hellgate. We stop at this Taco John’s as it’s the last one before you leave Montana and it’s one of my favorite taco locales. I remember it being a staple back in Helena on Taco Tuesdays where you’d get 2 for $0.99!
It was December right after Lilla was born and we had the 98 Jimmy loaded down with a lot of stuff - hard to imagine the drive nowadays in that one. The shot was actually just a quick one to highlight the ice floating in the water but when I got it home and processed the lights and sky really popped. This one is one of my faves…

Construction in India
You wouldn’t think that the construction industry would buy off on these types of setups, but when you get down to it, they seemed to have the hang of it. No shoes, no workboots, no hard hats, no nets. Nothing but climbing around on the bamboo support structures building. Hard to believe, but it gets the job done in India.
Spidertop Crop
So this spider was hanging out at a black sand beach in Maui in 2005. I had to bend the tripod to get it to stick for the closeup. Closeups can slip and blur really easy so I was in an awkward position, but the shot turned our really well I thought. I thought it unique, because the mouth looks eerily similar to an owl head…
