Dinty’s Restaurant in Biggs, OR
This one got snapped on the way to Bend, OR. I was initially just looking to try capturing the big red bridge that spans the Columbia River (you can see it in the back), but it gets a bit dwarfed by the old sign and gas pumps.
Biggs gets pretty warm during the summer so everything around the area is extremely sun bleached. The buildings that stood around this shot were all rusted white and the pavement looked like it had gotten a fresh paste of asphalt, so it smelled new, even though nobody had eaten at this restaurant for many years…
Mountainside Village in Kenya
I wanna say I snapped this just popping out of the truck on a quick ride down a hill on the way to Tanzania. The photo actually got cropped because it had about half the picture above with fog and I thought it took away from the picture as a whole. If you look closely you can see a truck and a few folks walking on the left side, I didn’t notice it till I got it in Photoshop to dig around a bit.
And The Hawaiian Moths Came Swooping In
So during the honeymoon that we had before the marriage (long story), we had a room overlooking Black Rock on Ka’anapali Beach (Maui, Hawaii 2005) that had a large amount of these moths that would come floating in if we had the window open for any amount of time greater than 9 seconds. These 2 guys just sat on our odd colored/fabric’d bed spread.
They didn’t want to move so I figured they wanted to get a quick snap or 15 worth of fame… Here is that fame for them - congrats guys, live it up!
The Ol’ Radar Tower
To be completely honest, I feel bad about putting you on like this. I never even left my hotel room for this shot. It was ugly outside and the drops you see on the pic are actually raindrops from outside the window. I covered up the flash reflection of the lamp in the background and actually HDR’d it up enough that I think it gave it something worth looking at.
It’s funny what you think works and doesn’t, kinda like the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Heather said that this photo was her favorite of the bunch and she’s usually one to focus more on even-ness and balance of which I think this photo misses the mark on both, but I guess maybe it has promise if she likes it…
